Our programmes

Support that meets people where they are.

Our programmes connect immediate care with practical pathways to safety, skills and self-reliance — from crisis support through to skills development and youth leadership.

Preserve the Legacy of Moses Mabhida

The Foundation preserves the life and legacy of Moses Mabhida through educational programmes, research and documentation, public lectures and exhibitions, and community awareness initiatives.

Victim Empowerment Programme (VEP)

Support for victims of domestic violence, survivors of gender-based violence and victims of sexual assault, together with counselling and social services. The team includes social workers, auxiliary social workers, counsellors and community volunteers, and supports over 4,000 beneficiaries monthly through psychosocial support and dignity packs. The programme is funded by the Department of Social Development and staffed by two social workers and eight social auxiliary workers, providing free counselling to victims of gender-based violence and femicide, psychosocial support and referrals, school talks, peer mobilisation, prevention campaigns and early intervention.

Thuthuzela Care Centre Support Programme

We work with Thuthuzela Care Centres to provide support services for sexual assault victims. When victims report cases through hospitals they are assisted by a multidisciplinary team of police officers, social workers, auxiliary social workers, counsellors and volunteers, so that legal, psychological and social support begins immediately. The programme is funded by the Department of Social Development to support rape victims with psychosocial support, referrals and follow-ups.

Mobile Psychosocial Support

A mobile psychosocial support unit staffed by two social workers, funded by the National Lotteries Commission. It takes counselling and support out to communities instead of waiting for people in crisis to find their way to an office.

24-hour helpline (in development)

With research and development funding from the National Lotteries Commission, we are building a 24-hour helpline. Automated support answers first and handles the early steps, then hands the caller over to one of our social workers for the actual interaction.

Skills Development

Training programmes, entrepreneurship development, community workshops and youth skills programmes — including MERSETA-accredited automotive training and access to internships or small business start-up support.

Youth Development

Youth empowerment through leadership programmes, technology exposure and career development initiatives.

Community Development

Programmes addressing poverty alleviation, social justice, community education and economic empowerment.

Homeless Food Feeding Programme

Breakfast and lunch — porridge and stew — from community kitchens, serving over 100 beneficiaries twice a week and more than 300 nutritious meals weekly, reaching people who are homeless, school learners, GBV survivors and families in crisis.

Substance Abuse Awareness & Early Intervention

School-based drug and alcohol awareness sessions, peer-led workshops, parent and caregiver dialogues and community activations, with referral systems to local treatment centres and follow-up support.

Community Awareness

Community dialogues, school campaigns, street activations and door-to-door outreach that tell people what support exists and how to reach it. Includes the Men's and Women's Dialogue Series on mental health, economic independence and gender equality.

Nip It in the Bud — youth intervention

Preventative education and early intervention for youth in schools and communities. Includes the Boys and Girls Dignity Programme, ukusoma (early courtship practices) and the “Chommy” girls programme.

LED Skills Centre

A Local Economic Development resource hub with computer and internet access for homework, research, CV writing and job applications, plus workshops in computer literacy, email etiquette, typing and intro-to-business tools such as Excel, Canva and PowerPoint.

Justice Bridge

An Anti-GBVF Justice Accelerator delivered with Bokang Group, integrating trauma-informed survivor care, rapid and ethical investigations, digital forensics, legal support and community mobilisation. It aims for prosecutorial readiness within 21 days of case initiation, piloted in Tshwane across three SAPS precincts and one Thuthuzela Care Centre.
